IGN has split with News Corporation after it was acquired by digital media publisher Ziff Davis. The buyout sees IGN.com and its sister sites 1UP, AskMen and UGO join Ziff Davis’ existing media portfolio, which includes PCMAG.com, Geek.com and Toolbox.com.
The deal enables IGN to do what it does best - delivering to you the very best games and entertainment content - and makes Ziff Davis one of the largest digital publishers for tech, video games and entertainment, with over 53 global million monthly unique visitors.
Peer Schneider, Publisher and EVP of Content, IGN said, “Ziff Davis shares similar roots with IGN, evolving from a traditional print business into a successful digital business. As the games media space continues to evolve, and audiences continue to seek new ways to consume content, we’re excited to be working with a partner focused on delivering strong editorial content across all platforms. IGN's audience of millions of passionate fans – including the largest audience of gamers online – coupled with Ziff Davis’ excellent monetization track record, will form the foundation for a very powerful media brand.”
Ziff Davis is the digital media subsidiary of j2 Global, a cloud services business that took over the media company in November 2012.
