New Rock Band DLC Ends in April, Harmonix Working on New Projects

For the past 5 years, the kids at Harmonix have labored to release weekly DLC for its Rock Band platform. 275 consecutive weeks and over 4,000 songs later, the music will finally stop this April, announced Harmonix's Aaron Trites, Manager of Community Development. Specifically, April 2, 2013 will be the last weekly DLC release for Rock Band.

In a note to the Rock Band community, Trites explained that the company is focusing on several new titles in development, and Harmonix has subsequently scaled down new Rock Band DLC production down as the company transitions resources onto other projects. We can presume that at least one of those projects will be a next-gen something for Microsoft's long-rumored new Xbox, most likely with some strong Kinect functionality.

John Drake, Harmonix's Director of Communications and Brand Management, echoed Trites' message on Twitter, saying:

We'll miss you, weekly Rock Band DLC. But hey, at least Harmonix managed to FINALLY include Andrew W.K. in Rock Band before closing down the weekly DLC factory. We'll be sure to pour out a 40 for Rock Band DLC on April 2.
