Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.
Too lazy to read actual words about all of today's hot game launches and price drops? Now you can consume the App Store Update... in video form! Since we're still testing, we filmed a long version and a short version. Today we're giving you... the long version. So watch it and make some mental notes. Tomorrow we'll give you the short version and ask which you like more.
Arlo’s Adventure – ($0.99)
The retro pixel style continues to prove popular as another new weeks of apps gets under way, with Arlo’s Adventure stepping up as the latest platformer to leverage the old-school look.
PixelVillage – ($0.99)
Arlo isn’t alone, though, as this new strategy/sim also brings the visuals back to the ‘80s.
Dungelot – (Free)
This is the second time Dungelot’s gone free now, and we’re still flabbergasted that Red Winter Software would be giving away such a quality design for no cost. Read our glowing review here, then download fast if you haven’t already.
DropSort – (Free)
Dungelot’s just the beginning of today’s freebies, though, as next up we have the box-shifting puzzle action of DropSort.
Distant Star – (Free)
Then blast off into the depths of outer space, also for free, courtesy of Distant Star.
Swing King – (Free)
You can always count on Chillingo for great production values in their games, and luckily they also offer up free downloads of their various titles fairly frequently too. Today it’s Swing King, a physics puzzler featuring a fuzzy monarch.
The Patriots – (Free)
The perfect app for Presidents Day (or the day after), The Patriots is tower defense set in Washington, D.C. and let you either defend the capitol or try to destroy it.
Burt Destruction – (Free)
A new release from RunWilder Games, Burt’s debut adventure has been free for several days already – so grab it before its price goes up.
Rock(s) Rider – ($0.99)
To celebrate over a million downloads so far, Rock(s) Rider has lowered the bar of entry for that second million to jump in and try it out.
Momonga Pinball Adventures – ($0.99)
A little flying squirrel grounds himself, rolls up into a ball and goes on a pinball quest. A steal at just 99 cents!
The Lords of Midnight – ($1.99)
That’s not a modern attempt at old-school art displayed just below – The Lords of Midnight is an actual release from 1984, brought back for an encore appearance via the App Store almost 30 years later. (On sale for three bucks off its normal price.)
That’s it for today! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
