A spinoff of the turn-based PC strategy game Frozen Synapse is heading to PlayStation 3 and Vita. Developer Double Eleven, who worked on the superb LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, is heading up the creation of Frozen Synapse: Tactics alongside original developer Mode 7 Games.
"Frozen Synapse: Tactics is not simply a transition of the original onto console," the developer wrote on Facebook, "we will be giving it a complete Double Eleven makeover." The released art is indeed a far cry from the Tron-like aesthetic of the original.
Frozen Synapse pits two players, each controlling a squad of soldiers, against each other in an atypical turn-based fashion. Each player makes and submits their turns in their own time, but the results play out simultaneously, which leads to unpredictable and tense strategic battles. It earned a respectable 8.5 from IGN in 2011.
Asynchronous multiplayer will return in Frozen Synapse: Tactics, in addition to a more fleshed-out, story driven single-player campaign.
Frozen Synapse: Tactics will release on PSN sometime in 2013.
